Available immediately for highly motivated recent PHDs and/or MDs with strong training in molecular biology and bioinformatics methods to join a multi-investigators research center. The mission of our center is revealing the single cell determinants of human brain relevant to persistent HIV infection and opioid use disorder using simultaneous single-cell RNA sequencing and single-cell Assay for Transposase- Accessible Chromatin sequencing (scMultiome-seq) and performing bioinformatics analyses and functional validation studies. We have ongoing projects employing innovative single-cell studies to generate cellular part list for brain regions that will provide novel insights into transcriptomic and epigenetic landscapes of CNS and how they are altered by HIV and opioid use. The outcome of these studies will impact our understanding of CNS functional perturbations by other RNA viruses including SARS as well as aging and inflammation. Other technologies employed in our projects include CRISPR, RNAi, RNA and genes delivery, spatial profiling, and in vitro and vivo models. Strong publication record and training to perform independent research are required for further consideration. The duties of staff members include bioinformatics analyses of single-cell and bulk HT-seq data to generate novel hypotheses for functional validation. The minimum requirements for the position include: 1) a PhD in the biomedical sciences or a related discipline; 2) experience with HT-seq data analysis and strong programming skills in relevant languages; 3) excellent communication and interpersonal skills to successfully manage professional interactions in a diverse team environment; and 4) the dedication to work hard in the pursuit of common goals. We highly value and encourage applicants from underrepresented minority groups. For examples of our multidisciplinary work and technologies used in our work, see https://ranalab.ucsd.edu and https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=rana+tm .

Successful Candidates will be part of a stimulating and collaborative scientific environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities. Applicants should send the cover letter, CV, and names and addresses of three references to ranaoffice@ucsd.edu: Administrative Coordinator, Rana Laboratory, Division of Genetics, Program in Immunology, Moores Cancer Center, Institute for Genomic Medicine, and Center for Drug Discovery Innovation, University of California San Diego, La Jolla, California, USA.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to gender, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran's status.
