The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline, and will conduct cutting edge, exceptional research within the broadly constituted disciplines of metabolism, molecular biology, structural biology, or other fields that would synergize with the current faculty’s research. Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding will enhance the application. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a growing and vibrant research atmosphere with a newly appointed chairperson, 16 research-intense faculty members, and plans for additional future faculty hires over a 5-year period. Current strengths of the department include (1) structural biochemistry (virus and macromolecular structure through X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, and NMR) (2) metabolism (metabolomics and metabolic flux analysis), spatial-biology, and artificial intelligence, and (3) molecular biology (RNA structure/function, epigenetics, gene regulation, DNA repair and replication). Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is part of a larger Biomedical Sciences program within the College of Medicine that includes 8 separate departments. UF offers world class core facilities for NMR/MRI, mass spectrometry, and computing that are easily accessible to the researcher. In 2021, UF entered a partnership with Nvidia to build HiPerGator 3.0, one of the largest supercomputing facilities sited at a university in the world. This year, UF surpassed 1 billion dollars in research spending, and was named one of the top 5 public universities by US News and World Report.

Educational activities of the Department include teaching at graduate/professional and undergraduate levels, and mentoring graduate students and research fellows.
