Description: NIH funded position is available immediately to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of brain injury following ischemic insult. The project is focused on the role of mitochondrial dysfunction due to excessive fragmentation. Specifically, we focus on: (1) Elucidating the effect of ischemia-induced changes in protein acetylation on mechanisms that control mitochondrial fusion and fission (2) Examining the mechanisms of neuroprotection by endogenous NAD+ precursor nicotinamide mononucleotide. Job requirements: Successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular/Cell biology, mitochondrial bioenergetics, or related field, and a record of publication success. Experience in mitochondrial isolation, small rodent surgery, histological techniques is preferred. Candidate should be highly motivated, independent with ability to work in a dynamic team environment. The candidate should have good organizational and strong oral and written communications skills.
