Institute for Protein Innovation

Post-doctoral fellow position (Receptor Engineering and Antibody Discovery)

Report to

The postdoc will report to Dr. Shaotong Zhu (Principal Scientist).

The Institute for Protein Innovation (IPI) is a nonprofit research organization advancing protein science to accelerate research and improve human health. Located on the Harvard Medical School campus in the Boston Longwood Medical Area, IPI is pioneering a new way of doing science that uniquely combines the freedom of academia with the high-throughput scaling of industry to take on transformative projects. IPI has built a robust platform and a repository of synthetic antibodies and other protein tools to share with the biomedical community through licensing and collaboration. The Institute’s deep protein expertise, collaborative spirit and fit-for-purpose antibodies are powering new biomedical and therapeutic discoveries for academic and industrial researchers worldwide.

Postdoctoral Fellow Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who has a keen interest in the area of antibody discovery and receptor engineering. The project will aim to create synthetic antibodies to understand the biological basis of cellular signaling pathways. Specifically, the successful candidate will take advantage of the antibody production pipeline at IPI to develop well-characterized antibodies that recognize secreted glycoprotein complexes that are essential for stem cell signaling and neuronal connectivity. Training will include the high-throughput production and characterization of antigens and synthetic antibodies; secreted protein complex expression and purification; and related biophysical techniques. This position will be part of the Protein Research team within the Receptor Engineering group and allows the candidate to receive multidisciplinary scientific training that covers the entire process of antibody generating and characterizing. Our work involves collaborations with academics as well as industry partners from around the world. The position has comprehensive career development and training opportunities in preparation for a successful independent career in both academia and industry. This is a 3-year fully funded position with the opportunity of extension based on performance. We offer a competitive salary including a Boston allowance and generous benefits. The position is available immediately.

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in cellular biology, protein biochemistry/biophysics, immunology, or structural biology obtained by the time of employment.
  • Experience in protein expression, purification and characterization is preferred.
  • A strong publication record in peer reviewed journal publications with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, productive team environment, and willing to work collaboratively across different fields.

IPI is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit research organization and an equal opportunity employer. The Institute celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Interested applicants should apply directly to Dr. Shaotong Zhu by sending cover letter, C.V., and contact information for three references to shaotong.zhu@proteininnovation.org.
