POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, in the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University (OSU), is seeking applicants for an 11-month, full-time, 100% research, non-tenure-track, Postdoctoral Fellow to work on soil and plant microbes and microbiomes associated with crops of interest to Oklahoma. This individual will work on the selective culture of bacteria and fungi from the roots and shoots of target plants and screen these organisms for properties beneficial to target host plant(s) and soil(s) in Oklahoma. Thus, this individual should be familiar with aseptic technique and microbial culture. The individual should also be prepared to engage in the culture- independent study of soil and plant microbiomes to examine shifts in response to environmental pressures such as drought and nutrient stress. Individuals with the ability to perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA and RNA sequencing analysis, genome and metagenomics analysis, are particularly encouraged to apply for this position.

The fundamental mission of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge through pioneering research and teaching, and we strive to achieve the goals of the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (DASNR).

QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements for this position include a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or a related discipline. Preferences will be given to candidates with: exceptional English written skills, good oral communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently. Experience with advanced molecular biology techniques, to include comparative microbial genome analysis and next-generation large data-set analysis used to define microbiomes and their alteration and past student mentoring is also encouraged.
