We are looking to fill Cancer Center Faculty Positions 

The NCI-designated Cancer Center at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP) is currently seeking to hire faculty (at any level) who are conducting innovative studies that address problems of fundamental importance to cancer biology and are focused on establishing new paradigms, ultimately leading to a decrease in the burden of cancer. We are seeking investigators who can synergize with existing faculty and complement and extend our current expertise through collaboration. Successful candidates will hold an appointment in one of SBP’s Cancer Center programs that are centered around (but not limited to) the following research areas:

Tumor Initiation and Maintenance – investigation of self-renewal and differentiation, proliferation signaling, genomic, and epigenomic regulation, to understand the cells that give rise to tumors and the signals that allow these cells to expand uncontrollably.

Cell and Molecular Biology of Cancer Program – study of cancer metabolism (including autophagy, macropinocytosis, metabolic reprogramming, and dependencies), molecular cancer targets, structural biology, and organelle function (including inter-organelle communication), to understand how the molecular and cellular framework of a cancer cell functions in unison to support tumor cell survival and proliferation.

Tumor Microenvironment and Cancer Immunology - identify how the interplay among cancer cells, immune cells, and stromal components creates barriers to anti-tumor responses and discover new strategies that modulate the tumor microenvironment to regulate cancer growth and metastasis.

A comprehensive support system is provided by advanced Shared Resources and from collaborative and energetic colleagues. Cancer Center faculty are expected to secure support from diverse funding sources to establish rigorous and competitive cancer research programs. Faculty are encouraged to partner with the Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics, the Institute’s state-of-the-art center for drug discovery and chemical biology, to advance the development of translational projects.

Required Experience

Requires a PhD or MD/PhD with outstanding training and research experience. Candidates are expected to have an impressive publication record and exceptional research accomplishments. Proven ability to secure extramural funding is required at the Associate/Full Professor level. Candidates at all faculty ranks are invited to apply.
