Primary Duties

The Vector Production Lead is a key member of Research Vector Core. The successful candidate will play a leading role in planning and managing research grade rAAV vector productions. He/she will Lead a production team and manage direct reports on their performance and daily activities. He/she will be responsible for:

  • Oversee vector production requests
  • Manage and work alongside with production team on day-to-day rAAV production
  • Build up and manage raw material supply; manage vector inventory via benchling
  • Author/review batch records, protocols. Gathering relevant process data and summarize in an appropriate format as needed
  • Address complex production process challenges by demonstrating and applying cross-functional knowledge, perform supporting studies as needed
  • Interface and coordinate with internal assay team and therapeutic areas on vector testing and delivery
  • Play a lead role in Technology Transfer from cross-functional team, including new vector production platforms and automated process formats
  • Supervise and provide guidance, to the production team
This position requires:

  • In-depth knowledge of upstream cell culture processes and downstream chromatographic purifications
  • Hands on working experience in industrial biological product process, capability for troubleshooting process and/or equipment related issues.
  • Supervisory experience and the ability to work/communicate effectively with fellow team members and with project teams


  • Plan for rAAV production
  • Manage workload within production team
  • Prioritize production schedule as needed
  • Work alongside the team in the hands-on production of rAAV vectors
  • On top of delivering high quality vectors
  • Address complex production process challenges
  • Lead production and equipment related troubleshooting
  • Author/review batch records, protocols
  • Summarize process data as needed
  • Manage performance and develop people
  • Lead production team in a manner that is consistent with Spark culture

Education and Experience Requirements

  • B.S/M.S in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Generally, has 5-8 years of industrial rAAV vector production or relevant working experience
  • Hands on experience with rAAV production is required
  • Experience in industry under regulated environment (GXP) is preferred
  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Strict attention to details. Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills are required
  • Excellent personal communication skills
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
