Alpha-9 Theranostics is seeking a Senior Scientist to drive discovery efforts for new targeted radiopharmaceutical products. This person will be responsible for one or more discovery programs, including design and oversight of preclinical experiments leading to viable diagnostic and therapeutic clinical candidates. The ideal candidate will have experience with radiopharmaceutical development.
We are an early-stage company, so this is a highly visible and impactful role in our growing organization. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the desire to collaborate cross-functionally and strive in a fast-paced environment.
Some specific duties and tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead discovery efforts for the development of targeted radiopharmaceuticals
- Design and oversee preclinical experiments to demonstrate in vitro activities and in vivo efficacy as well as to define mechanism of action
- Manage external teams (CROs and academic collaboration) to deliver peptides/peptidomimetics or small molecule-based radiopharmaceutical therapeutics (RPTs) for biological evaluation
- Matrixed management of scientists and research associates conducting peptide synthesis, biological assays and preclinical studies
- Interpret and analyze data, prepare, and review study reports, communicate project progress to internal stakeholders and external collaborators
- Drive key go/no-go decision making
- Collaborate with CMC and clinical teams for IND filings Represent company at scientific conferences including preparation of data for presentation
Qualifications:
- A PhD in cancer biology, cell or molecular biology, genetics, radiochemistry, medicinal chemistry or a related discipline with relevant post-doctoral training and a proven track record of scientific excellence and creativity
- 5+ years of experience in cancer research and drug discovery in biotech or pharmaceutical industries; alternatively, candidates with significant relevant academic research experience will be considered
- Expertise in cellular and molecular biology techniques, in vitro/in vivo models for target validation and drug efficacy studies, medicinal chemistry, peptide synthesis, structure-based drug design, and/or synthetic organic chemistry
- Experience in leading drug discovery projects/program management preferred, but not required
- Experience in radiopharmaceutical development preferred, but not required
- Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, verbal communication and writing skills
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a strong passion for the discovery of targeted therapies
