We are seeking candidates for a position of Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor / or full Professor in the Non-Tenure Line (Teaching) in the Division of Clinical Anatomy, Department of Surgery, at the Stanford University School of Medicine. We are particularly interested in candidates who have an MD or equivalent doctoral-level degree, and who have broad experience in the teaching of clinical anatomy and surgical skills to medical school students or residents. Candidates with a clinical background are specially encouraged to apply.

The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-Tenure Line (Teaching) is evidence of high-level performance as a teacher for whose special knowledge and pedagogical skills a programmatic need exists. Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Appointment to the rank of Assistant / Associate Professor / Professor (Teaching) is based upon evidence of the candidate’s excellence in teaching and pedagogical contributions at another institution. There should be evidence that the candidate will make meritorious contributions to his/her discipline and to the School, and be able to sustain a first-rate teaching program at Stanford. There should also be evidence that the candidate has earned regional / national / international recognition (depending on rank) for his or her teaching and pedagogical activities. A track record of successful scholarship and, if applicable, excellence in clinical care is desirable.  Service in leadership positions at the candidate’s home institution or national committees / professional organizations may also be given some consideration.

We expect the successful candidate to teach regional clinical anatomy courses at a range of levels, including undergraduate, medical school, and residency; to develop, direct, and teach new courses in the broad field of human anatomy as it relates to a variety of disciplines (e.g. health care and biomedical engineering); to teach Continuing Education courses and courses to professional students such as nurses or physician assistants; and to advance the education and research activities of the Division through leadership in innovative teaching, scholarship, and use of cutting edge technologies. The ideal candidate will possess the capacity to design, introduce, and direct a new program that will expand the scope of the Division’s activities through the addition of resources and expertise not currently found in the Division (e.g. introduce a plastination program, teach a course in embalming and preservation techniques, or offer clinical expertise in an area not currently covered). He or she will also demonstrate a strong interest in pedagogical or anatomical research, with a focus toward participation in the professional community and growth within the field. 

The activities of the Division are diverse and include extensive use of the most up-to-date technologies, offering unique opportunities for the successful candidate to bring technology resources to bear on educational endeavors in innovative ways. The Division maintains a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching, and has pursued a strong program of innovation in learning technologies including, but not limited to, 3D computer models, 3D printing, Virtual / Augmented / Mixed Reality. Candidates familiar with these technologies, therefore, will thrive in a team environment and will build and leverage productive working relationships with colleagues across the Department, the School, and the University.
