ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY

The Search

Texas Tech University (TTU), a public research university with very high research activity, seeks a strategic, visionary leader to serve as its next Associate Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (AVP). This individual will be charged with overseeing and enhancing TTU’s robust innovation ecosystem, which includes the Office of Research Commercialization (ORC), The Innovation Hub, the Texas Tech Research Park, Inc. (TTRP) (a separate 501(c)(3) entity), and the Northwest Texas Small Business Development Center (NWTSBDC). The TTU innovation ecosystem supports TTU and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) faculty, staff, and student entrepreneurs, as well as the entire West Texas region.

Reporting to the Vice President for Research and Innovation (VP), the AVP will work closely with the VP, strategizing, energizing, and leading a focused Research and Innovation Office, and driving economic engagement with TTU’s innovation ecosystem. The AVP will serve as TTU’s primary point of contact for the university’s innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development initiatives. They will advise the VP and other university leadership on ways to increase innovation and entrepreneurship impact across the Texas Tech University System (TTUS), to improve industry relations, support entrepreneur education, increase sponsored research, provide regional business support, and ensure that all appropriate policies and operating processes are effectively supporting students, faculty, and the citizens of the community. They are responsible for developing a dynamic, effective, and nimble team focused on innovation, engagement, knowledge transfer, commercialization, entrepreneurship, and economic development. They will draw on assets of the TTU administration, including but not limited to the offices of Government Relations, Academic Affairs, General Counsel, and Advancement, to further promote and advance the innovation and entrepreneurship missions and strategic imperatives.

TTU seeks an AVP with the experience and vision to provide strategic leadership to enable the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to grow and thrive in a rapidly evolving environment. They will serve as an ambassador for innovation and entrepreneurship across the Texas Tech System, as well as externally, acting as the face of the office, providing visionary leadership to staff, and providing insight and strategy to leadership and the university community.
