Job Details

Job Description The faculty of the Neuronal Cell Biology Division pursue a clear-cut, essential premise: we seek to understand how neural cells work at the cell biological level to discover how brains are built during development and how neurons function in the mature brain or malfunction in disease. If you are an early career investigator pursuing mechanistic questions in neuronal cell biology that implements or develops new technologies to explore, visualize and quantitate the cell biology of neural cells, we encourage you to apply to our junior FACULTY position. Areas of interest include mechanisms underlying neuronal genome organization, neuronal motility, axon or dendrite morphogenesis, physiology of neuronal trafficking events, synaptogenesis, cell biology of synaptic transmission, and how these processes occur in vivo systems or are perturbed in nervous system disease.

The Department of Developmental Neurobiology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St. Jude), which houses the Neuronal Cell Biology Division, believes diversity drives discovery. We seek investigators who are creative problem-solvers from diverse backgrounds that can seamlessly interface with our highly collaborative culture to advance our understanding of nervous system development and disease. In keeping with our departmental culture of diversity, we strongly encourage applications from female candidates and candidates from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds. A prime example of how this culture spurs innovation is that Developmental Neurobiology investigators have access to collectively homegrown departmental shared resources that include cutting-edge live cell imaging (such as Lattice Light Sheet & MOSAIC microscopes), image processing & image data science, human stem cells, mouse model generation, and advanced animal behavior assessment that drives all our research programs.

The St. Jude research community fosters a highly interactive environment with plentiful collaborative opportunities across our basic research and clinical departments and access to state-of-the-art institutional shared resources managed by highly engaged Ph.D. level scientists. St. Jude offers unparalleled startup packages, equipment, laboratory space, personnel support, and continuing institutional support beyond the start-up phase to support our institutional commitment to doing the most cutting-edge research possible. The Neuronal Cell Biology Division is in St. Jude’s Inspiration4 Advance Research Center, a new 625,000 sq. ft. facility expressly designed to house cutting-edge technologies and resources to transform science and accelerate discoveries.

Faculty positions at the Associate Member level or above may be considered. Successful applicants may hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, have at least three years of relevant postgraduate experience, and have a demonstrated track record of productivity. Applicants will be assessed on a rolling basis throughout the fall. The first round of assessments will commence by October 15, 2022.

Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a 2-3 page summary of research interests, and the names of three references directly online. Alternatively, the application materials can be sent to: David Solecki, PhD and Stanislav S.
