The laboratory of Dr. Marc Therrien at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) – University of Montreal is seeking to recruit a research associate or postdoctoral fellow in structural biology / X-ray crystallography. The candidate must have proven experience in cloning, protein expression, protein purification and crystallographic structure determination of proteins and protein-ligand complexes. One of the research focus of the Therrien laboratory is to describe, at molecular and atomic levels, signaling events relevant to cancer cell growth, including the mode of action of small molecule inhibitors, and to apply this knowledge to the development of novel therapeutic agents.

The candidate will be responsible for cloning, expression, and purification of proteins; characterization of protein-small molecule complexes using various biophysical methods such as ITC, SPR, and MST; screening and optimization of crystallization conditions and growth of diffraction-quality crystals of protein-ligand complexes;  synchrotron beam time management, X-ray data collection and processing; high-resolution crystallographic structure determination of small molecule-protein complexes; use of structure determination software and structural data to inform SAR studies and collaborate with chemists and biologists; design and perform experiments, project management, data analysis and interpretation, collection of data in an electronic lab notebook, writing progress reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications; working independently as well as effectively within the research group. Experience in cryo-EM protein preparation and structure determination would be an asset.

Required Education and Experience: PhD degree with 2+ years of experience in solving high quality structures of biological complexes using X-ray crystallography.

Preferred Education and Experience: Experience in structural biology / X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, biophysics, cancer molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, pharmacology, drug discovery.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience + benefits.

How to Apply: Please send a cover letter with statement of research interests, a CV with a publication list, and the contact information of three references to Dr. Marc Therrien (marc.therrien@umontreal.ca).
