Dr. C. Lowell and JoEllen Parsons Endowed Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology

The Department of Biology at Manhattan College seeks outstanding applicants for a new endowment-supported position – The Dr. C. Lowell and JoEllen Parsons Endowed Chair in Biology. This is a non-administrative, tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with a start date in August 2023. This search is open to candidates specializing in Cell and Molecular Biology who have 10 or less years of experience working in higher education. Special consideration will be given to those with undergraduate teaching experience and expertise in the areas of immunology, gene regulation, and/or transcriptomics.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology or a related field from an accredited institution, demonstrate excellence in academic research, and a proven commitment to teaching and advising students. We seek faculty members who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity, to aid in the attraction and retention of a diverse, talented student body. Manhattan College and its faculty view research scholarship and education as mutually supportive activities. The candidate must also be committed to the teacher-scholar model at a primarily undergraduate institution. Manhattan College School of Science faculty are expected to maintain high-quality teaching, an active and productive research program, and apply for external funding, when appropriate.

The individual filling this position will be required to teach our first year lecture and lab sequences for majors and non-majors, as well as upper level courses and new courses they develop in their expertise. The candidate will be expected to establish their own research program at Manhattan College that includes training and mentoring undergraduate students. In their application, candidates must demonstrate plans for research that integrates teaching and undergraduate student participation with their scholarly interests.

Applicants must possess their Ph.D. at the time of submission. Early or mid-career candidates with publications, postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education will be given preference. This non-administrative, endowed chair position includes a research budget, summer salary, student research support and is renewable every five years.

The faculty in the Department of Biology are committed to excellence in Lasallian teaching and learning, scholarship with established research programs in molecular and/or organismal biology, and high-quality service. Many of our faculty have collaborations with colleagues at neighboring research institutions (e.g., American Museum of Natural History, New York Botanical Garden, Yale University). Faculty have published in top journals in their fields and have guided students to presentations and publications at national and international conferences. Our facilities include new state-of-the-art research and teaching labs at the recently completed Higgins Engineering and Science Center.
