Summary
The Integrative Physiology Department at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant I. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary group studying mechanisms of skeletal muscle disease. They will learn and be expected to perform studies on muscle structure and function, immunocytochemistry and histology, biochemical techniques to assess proteins and mRNA changes and other techniques to analyze efficacy of therapeutic interventions. They will also learn to analyze data, help write manuscripts , keep a laboratory notebook with extensive details of all experiments that they perform, and will be expected to participate in laboratory meetings.
The Research Assistant I may attend seminars and, if appropriate take courses to improve laboratory skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a scientist to obtain additional training, publish manuscripts, learn techniques, and be part of a dynamic research team.

Job Duties
- Performs responsible research work that requires planning, completing, and occasionally supervising limited research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the supervisor.
- Designs and conducts research experiments.
- Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
- Develops and modifies computer programs.
- Selects and determines appropriate research procedures.
- Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
- Assigns activities to less experienced research staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
