Cancer Biology Research Fellow-Qi Lab

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Boston, MA

Full Time

The Qi laboratory at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is looking for an exceptional Postdoctoral Fellow in cancer biology (qilab.dana-farber.org).  The Qi lab studies gene regulatory pathways using the emerging discipline of chemical biology. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists including medicinal chemists, biochemists, computational biologists, and cancer biologists to develop novel inhibitors of chromatin modifying enzymes, such as methyltransferases, demethylases and bromodomains. The candidate will perform research that will help make fundamental insights to cancer biology using novel small molecule inhibitors to gain mechanistic understanding in cancer therapy.  We expect that novel therapeutics for human clinical investigation will emerge directly from these efforts through academic/industry collaborations. The postdoctoral fellow will be affiliated with the Department of Cancer Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Department of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and the Broad Institute.

Responsibilities:

Qi lab is seeking an enthusiastic, and experienced bench-level fellow to join our team. The major focus of this position will include developing and executing biological assays for inhibitor discovery and characterization while investigating novel biological mechanisms of action.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Performing cell and molecular biology research including but not limited to tissue culture, genetic manipulation through shRNA/CRISPR, routine protein/RNA/DNA analyses including ChIP-seq and RNA-seq.
  • Performing laboratory experiments and conducting data analysis.
  • Designing experiments and executing protocols.
  • Maintaining accurate records, writing reports, and preparing/giving presentations.
  • Performing preclinical translational studies in mouse models of cancer if it is interested.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or MD/PhD in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • A strong background in biochemistry, cancer biology, molecular biology and/or cell biology.
  • Experience with mouse models of cancer (xenografts, PDXs, GEMMs) is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to perform both self-directed and guided research is required.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists.
