Summary

This notice serves to identify an exceptional, creative, and thought-provoking technician to join a vibrant group of Molecular Biologists and Microbiologists charged with understanding the molecular basis of mutation and cell evolution. The applicant should be familiar with basic Microbiology and Molecular Biology with strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and willing to take instruction. There are multiple projects to choose from with a high-level of flexibility offered. This is a chance to join a vibrant and creative team at a leading medical school in the largest medical center in the world.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Growth plating, PCR, phage purification, DNA preps, sterility testing.
  • Use of Excel to make bar graphs, line graphs, heat maps.
  • Reads papers in Microbiology journals such as Infection and Immunity, mBio, J. Bacteriology.
  • Maintains a detailed lab notebook and uses Benchling for electronic notes.
  • Meets regularly with the PI, team members in lab meetings and weekly group breakouts.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • The position is for a job in Microbiology and so the candidate should have a degree in a related field or some Microbiology experience, be willing to learn such skills, and have a strong passion for teamwork.
