ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished analytical scientist to join our Molecular Toxicology team in Drug Safety Research and Development (DSRD). The Molecular Toxicology team applies a variety of molecular approaches aimed at elucidating mechanisms of efficacy or toxicity, characterization of in vitro or in vivo models, understanding species differences, identifying novel translational biomarkers, and informing compound/target selection. The rapid growth of gene therapy and mRNA vaccine platforms present unique challenges that require molecular biology solutions.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatic analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. These skills will be used to help to answer questions aimed at advancing Pfizer portfolio programs. As the NGS field is evolving rapidly, the candidate will also be working with a molecular biology team evaluating or developing new methods to refine existing workflows or build new capabilities for the group.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analysis of various forms of NGS data (RNAseq, whole-genome sequencing, targeted panels, epigenetics, both short- and long-read sequencing), both primary analysis and downstream/pathway analysis
  • Join Computational Safety Science community and represent the Molecular Toxicology team sharing best practices, participating in project- and curriculum-based training and collaborating in analysis of large, complex datasets (e.g. single cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics)
  • Help to identify, evaluate, and, where applicable, implement novel methods or technologies that would provide new capabilities or enhance workflow efficiencies
  • Will apply strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills to a variety of molecular or cell-based techniques
  • Collaborate with colleagues on cross-functional investigative teams to investigate mechanisms of toxicity or to aid in development of predictive preclinical models
  • Effectively communicates experimental findings in both oral and written formats
  • Maintain up-to-date laboratory notebooks and records

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS or MA/MS with 7+ years of experience in molecular biology or related field
  • Bioinformatics experience, specifically in independent analysis of NGS or other Omic data
  • R, Python or similar programming experience required
  • Contemporary knowledge of current and emerging NGS sequencing & analytical techniques
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, including generating high-quality data in a time-sensitive fashion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong analytical and programming background developing and applying novel analysis pipeline and methods
  • Experience performing basic NGS library prep and advanced sequencing techniques (e.g. single cell / single nucleus RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics)
