A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Jiang Zhu's laboratory for highly motivated candidates who are interested in structure-based vaccine design for diverse viral pathogens, such as SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, RSV, HCV, filovirus (EBOV and MARV), Flu, ZIKV, and MERS-CoV. Salary is in the range of $65,000 to $70,000 depending on prior research experience and qualifications. Dr. Zhu holds a joint appointment in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology (ISCB) and the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA (https://www.scripps.edu).
Dr. Zhu's laboratory combines structure biology, rational antigen design, nanoparticle engineering, animal immunization, single-cell technologies, and immunological assays to develop and evaluate next-generation vaccines. Currently, two vaccine candidates for SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1 are under clinical development and expected to enter phase-1 human trials in 2022-2023. Research projects will involve structural characterization of antibody/antigen complexes and protein nanoparticles by x-ray crystallography and electron microscopy. Successful candidates must have a recent Ph.D. in biophysics, structural biology, or other related fields. Candidates with prior research experience in structural analysis of glycoproteins are especially encouraged to apply.
