What You Will Achieve

The Senior Associate Scientist, Tissue Bank and Reagent Characterization Lab, will be responsible for supporting all aspects of human and animal tissue biospecimen needs for the global Pfizer Research and Development community, performing activities associated with human and animal sample management, high quality histology and supporting Reagent Characterization Lab projects, with moderate guidance/supervision.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform all aspects of human and animal tissue biospecimen management, including specimen intake (from internal and external sources and Pfizer clinical trials), specimen processing, storage and request fulfillment/disbursal
  • Perform routine histology skills including tissue trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning and staining
  • Serve as point of contact for specimen requestors, advising on Tissue Bank inventory and, if needed, external supplier options, building collaborative working relationships with colleagues, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders
  • Be responsible for documentation and tracking of samples as they move through the biospecimen life-cycle
  • Develop innovative process improvements and best practices related to biospecimen management and assist in implementation


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in the biological sciences, with 2-5 years of relevant experience in a biorepository or histology lab
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple projects


Nice-to-Have
  • Biospecimen management experience in a biorepository setting with solid understanding of sample management lifecycle
  • HT (Histotechnician)/HTL (Histotechnologist) certification (ASCP)
  • Project management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple project workflows
  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical drug discovery and clinical trial processes
  • Familiarity with anatomic pathology
  • Computer skills including Laboratory Information Management (LIMS) or biospecimen inventory management systems software, Excel, Powerpoint and Word
  • Experience in assay development, data analysis and presentation of scientific data nice to have but not required
