Post-doctoral position in Mucosal Immunology and Autoimmunity

Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC

Mentor: Dr. Chenthamarakshan Vasu

A post-doctoral position is available to study the role of TLR-microbiota interaction in autoimmunity. Project involves studies using human samples and rodent models to understand the impacts of innate immune-receptor interaction with gut microbiota on immune regulation, inflammation and autoimmune onset, and therapeutic manipulation of these interactions. Studies will involve use of conventional and high-throughput proteomics and metabolomics using samples from human subjects, and development and use of genetically modified and germ-free mouse models. Other projects in the lab include engineered cell-based approaches for treating autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes and lupus, and cellular mechanisms of tumorigenesis. More details can be found at:  https://medicine.musc.edu/departments/microbiology/research-program/vasu-lab

Candidates must hold a recent doctoral degree or equivalent. Candidates with previous experience and publication record in mucosal immunity, autoimmunity, inflammation, and/or cancer cell biology research will be considered. Minorities and women are especially encouraged to apply in order to address significant gender and racial/ethnic gaps in the nation’s biomedical research workforce.

MUSC is located in the beautiful historic district of Charleston bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and beautiful beaches to the east, and national forests and wildlife refuges to the north and south. MUSC is the state’s top-ranked medical center.
