The Institut Pasteur de Lille opens two new positions for outstanding scientists as group leaders to establish independent research teams in the area of drug discovery and chemical biology, and cardio-metabolic diseases, respectively.

The first position is in the area of drug discovery and chemical biology in the research unit U1177.  He or she is a talented organic / medicinal chemist and will have demonstrated excellence in organic synthesis, shown impact in multiple research environments and topics, and demonstrated the ability to manage a team of researchers and impart experimental skills. A genuine ability to understand biological and physical concepts, discuss strategic and tactical issues with scientists from all disciplines will be a differentiating asset. Priority research areas are innovative synthetic organic chemistry as well as design of drug candidates and chemical probes in the field of bacterial or viral diseases metabolic diseases, small molecules immunomodulators, pharmacological control of gene expression, inhibition of proteases. Applications focusing one of these areas will be preferred.

The second position is in the area of cardio-metabolic diseases, and the team will be integral part of the Research Unit UMR1011 “Nuclear Receptors, Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases”, composed of teams with complementary approaches and technologies.  The candidate should have experience in the bioinformatical analysis of large-scale omics data, ideally in the areas of physiology and metabolic (dyslipidemia, diabetes and fatty liver
disease) and/or cardiovascular (atherosclerosis and heart failure) diseases, including mathematical modelization.

The new teams are expected to develop cutting-edge research themes and strongly interact with other groups in their research units as well as on the Pasteur and the Lille medical school campuses. With an initial attractive package, the applicants are expected to establish an independent research team on the campus of the Institut Pasteur de Lille, 1, rue du Prof. Calmette, Lille, France (www.pasteur-lille.fr). Both teams will benefit from the state-of-the-art core facilities.

Initial funding for the duration of three years will be provided by the Institute. Within those 3 years, the applicant is expected to apply for regional, national and international grants to sustain the team’s research, and to apply for a permanent position at the CNRS (www.cnrs.fr) or Inserm (www.inserm.fr). The Institut Pasteur de Lille will provide all the necessary assistance to complete all applications.
