The Frank R. Seaver College of Science and Engineering at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. We seek to hire an innovative teacher-scholar to begin in Fall 2023. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field, conferred no later than the position start date of August 15, 2023. Postdoctoral experience or significant equivalent training is required.
We encourage applicants in the area of evolution, including evolutionary biology, conservation, and ecology. The successful candidate is expected to teach a lower-division biology lecture and/or lab, an upper division course in evolution, an upper-division field-based biology lab each academic year, and may develop other elective courses within their area of expertise to fill departmental needs. Newly hired faculty teach a reduced load their first and second year. The successful candidate is also expected to establish and maintain an active research program that includes undergraduate students and participate in service to the department, college, and university.

The Biology Department is housed in the Featherston Life Sciences Building (completed in 2015), which includes modern lab facilities, and a vivarium with an IACUC for vertebrate research. Synergy in research and teaching is enhanced by collaborative opportunities such as the LMU Center for Urban Resilience and the Coastal Research Institute.
