As a key member of the Rare Disease Renal discovery biology group, the successful candidate will be responsible for ideating, implementing and leading drug development projects across multiple therapeutic modalities from early discovery to clinical development. In collaboration with a larger interdisciplinary team, the individual will partner closely with RDRU colleagues, clinical development, computational geneticist and partner lines to advance the rare renal disease area strategy, including target identification, developing strong nonclinical translational studies to enabling robust clinical translation and to support biomarker development for clinical trials.

  • Lead rare renal disease biology research teams developing potential novel therapeutics across multiple modalities.
  • Cultivates sustainable and effective relationships with internal partners and stakeholders; fosters collaboration and partners across multi-functional teams working on rare renal indications encompassing research, asset leaders and clinical development in Pfizer.
  • Develops and utilizes scientifically rigorous nonclinical in vitro and in vivo translational pharmacology models to support projects from early development to clinical development.
  • Analyze, interpret and report results from nonclinical pharmacology translational studies in support of regulatory filings.
  • Effectively communicate strategy, methodology, progress, and challenges to multiple stakeholders and partners.
  • Participate in collaboration with external academic and industry partners to advance programs and develop new programs.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D.) with a minimum of 8 years' experience in drug discovery and development for renal disease.
  • Extensive experience with a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art cellular and biochemical assays, including novel method development, primary cell culture, animal models of disease and the development of models of disease.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively while contributing to multiple projects, highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong track record of scientific accomplishments demonstrated through the publication of primary research results in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and national/international scientific reputation and recognized as a collaborative scientist and subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrated leadership experiences and capabilities including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers and to oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to advance programs.

  • Experience with multiple therapeutic modalities for renal disease.
  • Experience with 3D cell cultures.
  • Experience in ciliopathies.
  • Experience in actively developing and advancing scientific initiatives and external collaborations.
  • Collaborative and effective partnering skills applied in a complex, multi-disciplinary organizational model.
  • High degree of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Other Job Details

Management of at least 3 direct reports including people managers, with additional opportunities to manage contingent workers and postdoctoral fellows as well as matrixed, cross functional teams.
