Description: The Shimada lab seeks a postdoctoral research scientist. The successful candidate ideally should have grounding in functional genomics and molecular biology in pursuit of the genetic and molecular basis of human cardiomyopathy. Experience in genetic discovery (e.g., SNP-GWAS, exome/whole genome data, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq) and having performed single cell RNA-seq using adherent cells (i.e., non-suspended cells), especially myocardium or similar (e.g., skeletal muscle) tissue, are desirable. We collaborate with statisticians to analyze genomic, transcriptomic, and biobank data, but basic familiarity with these analyses is helpful for efficient communication and project progress. The candidate will focus on NIH-funded functional genomics studies of human cardiomyopathy. The project will involve cutting-edge single cell sequencing technologies, functional genomics, transcriptomics, molecular biology techniques, RNA biology techniques, primary cell culture of cardiomyocytes, and use of biobank data and materials. The work will include use of clinical research (i.e., human) samples. The candidate will perform other duties as required. An ability to work independently as well as in a strong team-science environment is required. 

Minimum qualifications for Grade: 

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered:  

Requires a PhD, MD-PhD, or equivalent doctoral training. Experience in functional genomics, molecular biology, and cell culture.

Additional Position-Specific Qualifications 

Applicants meeting these qualifications will be considered stronger candidates: Experience of having performed single cell RNA-seq using adherent cells (i.e., non-suspended cells), especially myocardium or similar tissue (e.g., skeletal muscle); experience of performing flow cytometry and familiarity with 10x Genomics Chromium platform; experience with analysis and bioinformatics of genome-wide data (e.g., RNA-seq); experience in primary cell culture of human cardiomyocytes.
