About the Role
We now have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Beamline Scientist (PBS) for the Joint Engineering, Environmental and Processing Beamline (JEEP) beamline I12 at Diamond, an experimental facility that provides intense radiation in the high-energy X-ray spectrum and is a multi-technique facility for diffraction and imaging. The beamline has a vibrant science program covering a broad range of areas from cultural heritage, pharmaceuticals, earth sciences to materials and engineering processes and the study of dynamics and in-situ processes is a particular strength of the beamline.
As a PBS on I12, you will manage a team of beamline scientists and technicians to support user operations, you will lead the instrumental development programme, and elaborate the long-term strategy for the beamline and ancillary equipment, including preparation laboratories.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a large user base in diverse scientific areas, and you will be encouraged to develop your own research program and foster links with the researchers on the other imaging beamlines and across Diamond.
Further responsibilities will include:
- Directing the operation of the beamline with full responsibility for the schedule, maintenance, and user support Working with the beamline team and support group to develop software and hardware solutions for the beamline – developing new methods and approaches. Coordination (financial, technical, scientific, resource management, build, commissioning, and documentation) of upgrade and operations projects.
About You
Suitable candidates should have a PhD and significant post-doctoral experience using high energy X-rays in large-scale facilities for imaging and/or diffraction.
You must have an active research program in a field relevant to the beamline and be able to highlight your personal contributions to research publications and demonstrate international recognition for you work.
