Primary Duties

The Software and Data Engineering team within the Data Science Group at Spark Therapeutics is seeking a Data Governance Lead to oversee and manage the Data Governance program across the organization. This role serves as a key group member to support data strategy, process management, and solution implementation needs of the organization. Primary responsibilities of the DGL include:

  • Manages Data Governance program operations throughoutSpark Research and Technology Development & Operations (TD&O) organizations.
  • Drive strategic decisions and information that come fromdata governance forums.
  • Manage the documentation and cadence of both theWorking Groups and Steering Committee.
  • Chair the Working Group and drive towardsactionable outcomesand decisions for approval bythe Steering Committee.
  • Track all decisionsand items from governance forumsand monitor adherence.
  • Provide support to members of all governanceforums.
  • Prime author of all use cases, documentation,and executes all engagement activities
  • Help develop data dictionary, business flow diagrams, future state process map and other solutions to facilitate data accessibility and transparency.
  • Implementation/operational usage of content within data governance tools. (Business Glossary, Data Catalog, Data Quality metrics)
  • Engagement with governance forum leaders andparticipants.
  • Manage data definition and business rule changes through a defined intake process.
  • Help increase project transparency and progress tracking through detailed and intuitive documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Data Governance program operations throughoutSpark
  • Ensure appropriate project documentation is compiled and proper review and approvals from respective teams and stakeholders is gathered and collated.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and governance forum members.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer science, or related field.
  • +8 years of relevant data governance experience
  • +3 years of experience with data governance tool suites (e.g., Alation, Informatica, Collibra, etc.), and implementation/operational usage Business Glossary, Data Catalog, Data Quality capabilities within these tools.
  • Deep understanding of data management, integration, modeling, and profiling concepts.
  • Experience in biotech/pharma is highly preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of data governance and management concepts, approaches, and tools
  • Experience in capturing complex business requirements, analyzing, and translating them into easily understandable functional requirements.
  • Strong client-engagement skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts and principles.
  • Proven ability to work independently, self-motivated to learn and develop new methodologies, manage multiple projects simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly and learn tools and technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to write clear documentation, present technical solutions/outlooks and simplify complex processes.
  • Works with colleagues as a team player.
