Primary Duties

The Laboratory Systems Technician will have the responsibility for day-to-day laboratory support activities occurring at the Spark research facility. These laboratory support functions will facilitate the scientific process and include safe operations and efficiency development for cross-functional activities supporting the Bioanalytic, Immunology, and Therapeutic Area Research teams.

This role requires a strong collaborative effort with the scientific laboratory staff, scientific facilities personnel, and inventory management personnel within a fast-paced environment.

Accountability overview:

  • Maintain general orderliness throughout the lab. Stocking PPE stations and straightening of common use areas.
  • Perform and document regular monthly equipment cleanings: incubators, water baths, centrifuges, as well as other benchtop equipment within the GLP and Research labs.
  • Provide lab services such as: glass washer operation, autoclaving activities, waste removal, and troubleshooting of minor equipment issues.
  • Monitor supply of reagent and consumables for Laboratory Operations stock out program and assist with processing order requests using a web-based eProcurement system and SharePoint site.
  • Receive reagents and consumables ordered through SharePoint site and deliver to designated lab staff/storage areas throughout the lab.
  • Using aseptic technique, prepare bulk reagent aliquots, buffers, cleaning reagents and monitor stock levels.
  • Assist EHS in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Monitor operating processes for opportunities to increase efficiencies.
  • Elevate laboratory operating issues through appropriate channels.
A successful candidate will also be cross trained to back up inventory and facilities personnel.

Responsibilities

    Clean and organize laboratory common use areas daily; assist with biohazard waste removal from lab spaces; perform routine monthly cleanings on equipment throughout the lab; perform regular maintenance on specific equipment. Receive and deliver laboratory supply orders to scientific staff daily. Assist with ordering lab supplies when needed. Monitor supply of stock out reagents and consumables. Provide support to the scientific staff on matters that may arise at any given time within the laboratory. Operate glass washer and autoclave; prepare and monitor inventories of common stock media, buffers, and cleaning reagents. Provide backup to other support team personnel when required: scientific facilities and inventory management.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associates degree in biological sciences required, BA or BS degree preferred
  • Science background/education and/or laboratory experience/applicable work experience preferred.
  • Experience with Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint preferred.
