The State Key Laboratory of Tea Plant Biology and Utilization is based on the national key (cultivation) discipline of Anhui Agricultural University -Tea Science. This discipline was formerly the Tea Special Discipline at College of Agronomy, Fudan University. It is the cradle of tea science discipline in China, and has been selected into the world-class discipline construction plan of Anhui Province and the peak discipline of Anhui Province. At present, the laboratory mainly focuses on four research areas: tea plant physiological ecology and germplasm innovation, tea plant secondary metabolism and quality chemistry, health function and mechanism of action of tea, and quality safety and processing utilization of tea.
The laboratory has: 1) state-of-the-art research facilities for molecular biology, bioinformatics, metabolomics, biochemistry, chemistry, cell biology, experimental animals, biomedical sciences, physiology and nutrition, and spectral analysis. 2) first-class scientific research team: the laboratory currently has 71 scientific researchers, including 30 professors, 3 national-level talents, 28 returnees from overseas study, and 27 PhD supervisors.

principal investigators and postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to apply in the fields of: synthetic biology, genome editing, tea processing and deep processing, plant secondary metabolism, developmental biology of horticultural plants (tea plants, etc.), tea tree physiology and ecology, plant protection, intelligent machinery, food flavor chemistry, nutrition and health sciences and other related disciplines.
