Tenure-track Faculty Position

(Assistant Professor)

Center for Advanced Genomic Technologies

Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology

Duke University School of Medicine

The Center for Advanced Genomic Technologies (CAGT) at Duke University (http://cagt.pratt.duke.edu), a collaborative initiative of the School of Medicine and Pratt School of Engineering, together with the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology (MGM) (http://mgm.duke.edu) in the Duke University School of Medicine, invite applications for a tenure track faculty position. A tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, but appointments at the Associate or Full Professor level with tenure are available for exceptional applicants.  We are interested in researchers working in the fields of genetics and genomics.

We seek an individual who will develop an outstanding research program to address a significant biological or human disease-related question using animal models, patient-derived samples, and/or cell-culture/iPSC/organoid-based systems. We are also interested in individuals with expertise in genomic technologies or technology development, including (but not limited to) genome engineering, functional genomics/epigenomics, genome structure, quantitative analyses, genome and nucleic acid imaging, cell reprogramming, precision medicine, and lineage tracing.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD. Candidates are expected to have a record of significant and innovative research contributions, to be capable of obtaining competitive external research funding, a motivation to work in a highly collaborative environment, and to actively participate in graduate and post-graduate training and mentorship. Successful candidates will complement and strengthen existing research programs in CAGT and MGM.

CAGT and MGM, at Duke University, provide outstanding facilities, start-up support, a rich scientific environment, and commitment to faculty career development. CAGT was founded in 2019 to support and build upon Duke’s strengths in genome research and technology development, as well as to build collaborations throughout the Schools of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, and Medicine. The MGM department provides a focus for a broad range of research activities in genetic and genomic analysis using microbial, invertebrate, and mammalian systems. Current strengths in genetics/genomics in MGM include recombination, chromosome structure and function, neuro- and developmental genetics, human genetics/genomics, and animal models of biology and disease.

Application: Interested candidates should submit the following by October 15, 2022: a cover letter (with contact information), a three-page research statement that includes a brief description of research accomplishments and plans for future research, a curriculum vitae, a one-page statement describing previous experiences and future plans for teaching and fostering diversity in science, and 3-5 reference letters. Applications must be submitted electronically through AcademicJobsOnline.org (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22008).

Duke University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and provides employment opportunity without regard to an individual’s age, color, disability, genetic information, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status. We are committed to creating an outstanding and inclusive training environment and seek candidates, including women and underrepresented individuals in science.
