I. About SZU

Established in 1983 with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the support of top Chinese universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China, Shenzhen University (SZU) has undergone rapid growth and has been selected a demonstration university by the Ministry of Education for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, and a key construction university in the Guangdong High Level Universities Program. As the only comprehensive university in Shenzhen, SZU is committed to serving the development of Shenzhen, demonstrating China’s reform and opening up and pioneering change in higher education. Since China enters the new era, the University has implemented the development strategy to build a high-level university. At present, SZU has become one of the fastest-growing universities Chinese mainland universities, and a distinctive high-level university with strong capabilities, good reputation and global influence.

Commitment to excellence. SZU currently encompass two campuses in Yuehai and Lihu with a total area of 2.72 square kilometers and a total construction area of 1,969,300 square meters. With its beautiful and harmonious environment, the university was awarded the “Civilized Campus” at both national and provincial level. SZU is now home to 27 colleges, providing a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in 11 disciplines including 38 first grade authorized disciplines to award master’s degrees, 17 authorized disciplines to award doctoral degrees, nine post-doctoral research stations and one post-doctoral workstation. So far, a total of 14 disciplines are listed among the top 1% in ESI, ranking 23rd nationwide and 2nd in Guangdong Province, among which engineering is the first discipline in Shenzhen to be listed among the top 1‰ in ESI.

A pioneer in innovation and entrepreneurship education. Since its founding, SZU has developed a full-process, full-chain and full-coverage training system to nurture innovation and entrepreneurial talents. Ninety-five percent of the 300,000 SZU alumni have taken root in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This distinctive system characterized by the deep integration of education, talents, industry and innovation has created an innovation and entrepreneurship hub entered around SZU and its influence is continuously increasing.

Professional and passionate faculty. SZU currently has 4,027 faculty members, including 2,594 full-time teachers. There are 1,326 post-doctoral fellows and 709 full-time researchers. The University boasts a high-level faculty group, including 179 high-level talents at the national level (24 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 21 foreign academicians), 90 high-level talents at the provincial level and 1,969 high-level talents at the municipal level.

An innovation-centered leader in science and technology. SZU has carried out in-depth reform in the research system, significantly improving the university’s research and innovation ability. We have made rapid progress in the application for projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Fund of China, as well as other major and key projects. We have built key research platforms and achieved high-level achievements in research, talent training, and PCT patents.

Striving to build a first-class university. The university has established a vision to be deeply engaged in the construction of Shenzhen into a pilot demonstration area for socialism with Chinese characteristics. We will strive to develop into a high-level comprehensive university in 2025 to better serve the modern, international and innovative city of Shenzhen; we will strive to develop into a high-level comprehensive university with global influence in 2035 to promote the development of Shenzhen as a great socialist modern city; in the middle of the 21st century, we will strive to develop into a world-class university and benchmark university of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, leading the cultural development of the city, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the reform of higher education.

III. Requirements

1. Firmly uphold the line, principles and policies of the Communist Party of China; abide by national laws and regulations; passionate about higher education with a strong sense of enterprise, integrity and high moral character.

2. Have senior professional and technical titles and doctoral degrees; excellent academic attainments in the relevant filed recognized by peers at home and abroad; good academic reputation and influence.

3. Be familiar with the laws of higher education and have a clear understanding of higher education in China; be able to propose forward-looking, innovative and strategic ideas for the high-quality development of the college/school; an academic vision to serve the development of Shenzhen and beyond; work experience and demonstrated achievements in academic institutions with first-class disciplines; strong organizational and management skills.

4. Good personal qualities, professionalism, teamwork, dedication, and honesty.

5. Successful candidates shall be on board full time after their appointment and devote major efforts to the administrative work of the school/college.

IV. Responsibilities

1. Preside over the overall administrative work of the school/college; centering on the university’s strategic goal of accelerating the construction of a world-class university and first-class disciplines, formulate the overall goals and strategic plans for the development of the school/college, and promote and ensure the implementation of the tasks;

2. Achieve accomplishments in the recruitment and cultivation of high-level talents and outstanding young talents; strengthen the training of young and middle-aged backbones and build a high-level faculty group with innovation, competitiveness and influence;

3. Provide leadership in disciplinary directions and optimize disciplinary structure; strengthen the scientific research and innovation capacity of the school/college, including facilitating applications for national key major projects, establishing platforms and nurturing achievements, and promoting cooperation between industry, academia and research to serve national strategies and regional economic and social development needs;

4. Centering on the fundamental task of building morality and cultivating people and the university’s endeavor to nurture innovative and entrepreneurial talents, promote teaching reform, strengthen the construction of first-class majors and programmes, and improve the first-class talent training system to comprehensively enhance the quality of talent training;

5. Promote education openness and cooperation through establishing long-term and stable strategic cooperation with internationally renowned universities or academic institutions and expanding high-level exchanges and cooperation to promote internationalization and enhance global competitiveness.

6. Fulfill other work tasks as agreed in the employment contract.

V. Term and Remuneration

1. Appointments are for a term of five years, including a trial period of one year. The contract can be renewed for candidates who pass the assessment upon the expiration of the contract.

VI. Appointment

2. The review panel will shortlist candidates for interviews. Candidate travel expenses to and from the university location are reimbursable. Virtual interviews will be arranged for candidates who cannot come in for a face-to-face interview.

3. Final candidates will be selected based on the interview results, and both parties will sign an employment contract.
