Postdoctoral Research Associate

Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time academic Post-doctoral Research Associate position.

Postdoctoral research associates may conduct research related to immigrant populations (e.g., refugees), including the natural, quantitative, and social sciences, humanities, and the creative arts, as well as interdisciplinary research that transcends traditional disciplines. The candidates will be selected from a pool of applicants based on their research’s promise for cultivating dialogue, nurturing collaboration across academic disciplines, and integrating, synthesizing, and building upon existing disciplinary contributions to global health and human rights research, broadly conceived. The candidates will also be evaluated based on how their research could benefit from and contribute to efforts by the Human Rights Impact Lab to advance the health of forcibly displaced individuals in the US and abroad.

Under the general direction of the Human Rights Impact Lab Directors, this position provides programmatic, outreach, research and research management, and grant-seeking and grant-writing support for the Human Rights Impact Lab research studies with immigrant and refugee populations. This role involves managing all aspects of clinical research which includes: study regulatory documents, subject recruitment and retention, coordinating study visits and follow up, data management (i.e., collection, storage, analysis, sharing and publication) according to highest ethical and regulatory standards, conforming with study protocols and keeping track of any potential study deviations.

Job Responsibilities

• Coordinates and manages clinical research projects that includes on-site and remote data collection and longitudinal follow-up for multi-level health data.
• Develops a pipeline to streamline data flow across the Human Rights Impact Lab cores for clinical research participants.
• Identifies funding opportunities, coordinates and drafts funding proposals and reports.
• Prepares written/print materials such as manuscripts, perspectives, posters, and flyers.
• Works with the administrative team on regulatory documents (e.g., IRB applications and protocols).
• Leads special projects as assigned.

Education

• Awardees must have earned the doctoral degree within five years of beginning their fellowship.
• Candidates with more than five years of postdoctoral experience are not eligible.
• Awardees may not simultaneously hold any other paid or unpaid position during the term of the appointment.
• Prior to the start of their fellowship, candidates will be asked to provide confirmation that their doctoral degree has been conferred.

Experience

• Approximately 1-3 years of related experience managing clinical research activities is desired.
• Background in medicine, law, social sciences, anthropology, public health, global health, public policy, or human rights is desired.

• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise standards of professionalism, including appearance, presentation and demeanor.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative manner with all departmental faculty and staff, as well as other institutional representatives.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets.

Salary and Appointment Details

• Post-doctoral research associates are provided an annual stipend compliant with the current NIH scale for the first year of the post-doc, and an inflation adjusted salary for year 2 when reappointed.
• This position is for a one-year term with the potential for a second- and third- year renewal.
