The Healthy Aging in Neighborhoods of Diversity across the Life Span (HANDLS) study

Health Disparities Research Section of the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Population Sciences

National Institute on Aging (NIA)

National Institute of Health (NIH)

A fully-funded postdoctoral position is available in the Health Disparities Research Section of the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Population Sciences, at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in Baltimore, MD (https://www.nia.nih.gov/research/labs/leps/health-disparities-research-section). Research in the laboratory examines the biologic basis of age-associated health disparities using data from various epidemiologic studies including NHANES, HRS, UK-BioBank, among others. A particular focus our work is an ongoing longitudinal cohort based on area probability sampling of African American and White adults initially 30-64 years old in Baltimore, MD, the Healthy Aging in Neighborhoods of Diversity across the Life Span (HANDLS) study (https://handls.nih.gov/).

This position works in all domains of HANDLS, including social, nutritional, cognitive, and molecular epidemiology applying ongoing training and experience in epidemiological methods relevant to understanding aging and health disparities that provide insight into how interactions among these factors yield disproportionate rates of age-related disease and disability.

Candidates must have less than 5 years of postdoctoral experience, a Ph.D. or M.D., MPH degree in Epidemiology, Nutrition, Biostatistics, Statistics, Population Genetics, Computational Biology, or related fields.

The following qualifications are required:
