Information of the Position

Positions are available in the Gartner laboratory to study mechanisms related to genome stability and apoptosis at an organismal level using C. elegans as a model organism. Our lab ( has a >20 years track record in studying chromosome biology, apoptosis and DNA damage responses. The lab recently moved from Scotland to the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) Center for Genomic Integrity in Ulsan, South Korea, and is equipped with high end state of the art equipment including a COPAS worm sorter, a spinning disc microscope and a custom-built cell lineaging setup. The new lab is fully ‘up and running’. 

Hiring Research Center/Lab

Our lab provides an outstanding platform for Postdocs developing their own ideas and projects that are related to our core interests. Employment for Junior Postdocs is for up to 3+5 years, Senior Postdocs can be employed for up to 5 years, with a possibility of promotion.

Anton Gartner directs the Genetic and Genomic Toxicology Branch (GGTB) at the IBS Center for Genomic Integrity. The Korean IBS founded ~10 years ago, is modelled on the Max Planck system and is currently comprised of ~30 research centers. The focus of the IBS is basic, interest-driven science (  IBS-CGI is located at UNIST ( which aims to be among the top Science Universities in the world. IBS-CGI has access to most generous core support and aims to become an internationally leading research center for genome maintenance. The UNIST campus is beautifully located in the outskirts of Ulsan, a city of ~ one million, with excellent connections to all of South Korea by high-speed train. The working language at IBS-CGI is English.
