JOB SUMMARY

The Mathematics in Medicine Program at the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI) is focused on using knowledge gained from quantitative sciences to understand the biology and physics underlying different disease states in an effort to develop novel, clinically applicable tools for diagnosis and therapy. The Program is recruiting a research-track assistant professor with an emphasis on integration of biology/medicine and mathematics/physics/engineering related to precision oncology. Applicants with quantitative skills (artificial intelligence, machine learning/deep learning) and a strong track record in developing knowledge- and/or data-intensive computer-based solutions for addressing decision-based medical problems are highly encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will be working on translational research projects in the fields of cancer, immunology, and infectious diseases, in collaboration with our experimental and clinical collaborators at HMRI, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Rice University, Baylor College of Medicine, and other institutions here in Houston and across the country. He/she will be expected to take an active role in currently available research projects at the Program (or establish new initiatives) that attract national- and state-level extramural funding and generate research of significant impact. Specifically, the applicant will have the opportunity to work on advanced, challenging research projects, including e.g., (1) multiscale mathematical models for predicting drug response in local and metastatic cancers and other disease systems, (2) nano, chemo, and targeted drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PKPD) models, and (3) patient-specific translational models using data obtained from standard-of-care diagnostic imaging (histopathology, CT, MRI, PET/SPECT) and biofluid data. Opportunities to contribute to graduate and medical education are available through collaborations and joint education programs.
