Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed) is seeking to double its faculty over the next 8 years by recruiting multiple faculty to enhance and expand each of the institute’s Scientific Research Programs (https://www.txbiomed.org/research/):

Population Health: Identification of correlates of susceptibility or resistance to infectious and chronic diseases on a population level (both hosts and microbes).

Disease Intervention and Prevention: Development of diagnostics, treatments and vaccines to reduce the severity of/or cure infection.

Host-Pathogen Interactions: The basic biology of infection in humans and animals; the immediate intersection of host and pathogen.

Successful faculty candidates will be expected to synergize with faculty and staff in existing Programs to foster Texas Biomed’s efforts to become national/international leaders in infectious disease research, and research on vulnerable/susceptible populations. Texas Biomed is a free standing, private nonprofit research institute. It supports BSL2, BSL3 and BSL4 programs with unparalleled resources, and is the host institution of the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC), one of the seven National Primate Research Centers supported by NIH in the U.S.

Seeking Candidates for the following Faculty Positions:

Computational Biology and Informatics (250)

Texas Biomed seeks to recruit faculty of any rank to develop/expand a successful and impactful independent research program in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, and/or Quantitative Biology that will be supported by federal and independent agency funds. Texas Biomed currently has several investigators whose laboratories develop and employ quantitative and computational approaches to study population genomics, host-pathogen interactions, viral/cancer immunity, aging, metabolic disorders, heart diseases, and obesity. We invite candidates with expertise in different branches of quantitative biosciences including computational biology, quantitative biology, biomedical informatics, and big data sciences to apply. Investigators that integrate experimental and computational approaches and have an interest in using single cell and spatial transcriptomics, aligned with and complementary to the Institute’s three Scientific Research Programs, are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D. and/or DVM with expertise in biomedical informatics, genomics, genetics, computational biology, medicine, biostatistics, or related disciplines. Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded federal research program. Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups. Established investigator candidates with evidence of a strong collaborative research program and leadership skills will be provided resources to recruit a team of two additional faculty with complimentary interests and expertise to expand the capabilities of Texas Biomed in these specific disciplines.

Population Health (251)

Texas Biomed seeks to recruit faculty of any rank to develop/expand a successful and impactful independent research program that will be supported by federal and independent agency funds. A focus on infectious diseases and/or chronic health conditions (e.g. metabolic disorders) as well as comorbidities and risk factors such as aging, behavior, genetics, and environmental and social determinants of health that affect host risk and severity of infections and diseases is desirable. Candidate research interests should align with the Population Health Program theme on the Identification of correlates of susceptibility or resistance to infectious and chronic diseases on a population level. Research interests may include: i) Fundamental biology of human susceptibility and/or resistance to diseases and their severity, ii) The study of pathogen population dynamics and adaptation to human and/or animal hosts, iii) Field and population studies of human infectious and chronic diseases (e.g., epidemiology, interventions, precision medicine).

Qualifications: Ph.D., M.D. and/or DVM in a Biological Sciences specialty. Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded research program.  Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups. Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to recruit a team of two additional faculty members with complimentary interests and expertise to expand the capabilities of Texas Biomed in this specific discipline.

Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist (252)

Texas Biomedical Research Institute seeks to recruit an Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist for a faculty position at any rank. The position involves a 50% commitment to service activities in Anatomic Veterinary Pathology (rodent models and NHP) and a 50% commitment to research activities that synergize with the Institute’s three Scientific Research Programs. The candidate is expected to develop/expand a successful and impactful independent research program that will be supported by federal and independent agency funds. The successful candidate may work at BSL2, BSL3 and BSL4 environments.

Qualifications: D.V.M, V.M.D, or equivalent and advanced training in anatomic pathology. American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) board certification is preferred although board eligible candidates will be considered. Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded research program. Molecular pathology and image analysis experience preferred. Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams, and mentoring members of underrepresented groups.

Contract Research (183)

The institute seeks to recruit faculty at any rank in the translational/contract research arm of the institute. Texas Biomed has a robust relationship with industry partners in diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines and supports a faculty track in Contract Research. Expectations for faculty are preparing and submitting applications for RFPs, interacting with funding agencies to expand the Institute’s contract research footprint, developing contract study scope, performing research, preparing scientific reports, and working within the guidelines of regulated studies (QA/QC). Expertise can include prior research or contract studies using a variety of animal models (non-human primates, rodents, etc.), in vitro models, and/or a variety of infectious agents including select agents. Opportunities to develop or maintain an independent research program in parallel are available and encouraged.

Qualifications: Ph.D. M.D. and/or DVM in a Biological Sciences specialty. Demonstrated research productivity and evidence of an independently-funded research or contract research program.  Experience working with interdisciplinary research teams and mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
