Position Summary

The Business Manager is responsible for the operational and financial performance of specified departments. This position co-leads the development and maintenance of annual budgets, shares accountability for financial performance, and coordinates facilities activities Identifies and pursues performance improvement efforts and serves as primary point of contact for operational data and information. Collaborates with Nursing, Ancillary, Service Line, Patient Access, Finance, Contracting, IT, and Facilities leadership to ensure efficient operations and growth within the department(s) and executes plans to improve productivity, capacity/utilization, resource management, and patient experience.

The Business Manager is involved in strategic planning, performance improvement, and actively collaborates with the department's management team, materials coordinator, physicians, and other interdepartmental personnel and committees. Develops immediate and long-range plans for inpatient services purchasing, special product inventory, capital equipment, facilities services, and space requirements. Leads all aspects of information systems (Epic, Tableau, Taleo, PeopleSoft, etc.) specifically with clinical documentation, materials management, and patient charges/revenue.

Key Responsibilities include:

Operations
  • Oversee implementation of Medical Center's annual routine capital plan
  • Lead mid to large scale projects to performance improvements related to patient access, experience, throughput/capacity, quality, and expense management.
  • Responsible for coordination of facilities and space planning for the department (new installs, remodels, renovations, etc)
  • Manage contracts within the department including identification of need, negotiations, execution, and ongoing monitoring of performance.
  • Serve as liaison to support departments such as Finance/Decision Support, Legal, Quality, Hospital Administration, Facilities, ITS, Contract Management, Supply Chain, and Transformation Office.
  • Develop process maps and use lean principles to improve workflow.

Financial Management
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to prepare annual budgets (operating and capital), monitor performance, and implement action plans if needed.
  • Forecast department volumes, revenue, and expenses
  • Responsible for an accurate expense ledger, payroll reconciliation, cost transfers, invoice payment
  • Oversee monthly operating review program for the Medical Center
  • Decision Support and Analytics
  • Proactively analyze metrics and data to present recommendations to improve operations and patient experience.
  • Data gathering, analysis, and validation

Dashboard creation
  • Business justification for new programs, positions, equipment
  • Monitor labor productivity and comparison to external benchmarks
  • Trends and opportunities regarding utilization and capacity
  • Forecast financial performances and make recommendations for improvement


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, business or related field
  • 3+ years of business/operations experience preferably in a healthcare environment

Required Courses/Training:
  • Lean Six Sigma

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • MHA, MPH, or MBA
