Position description
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego is conducting an open search for Project Scientist (non-tenured, Assistant, Associate or Full level level) in various academic disciplines. Pending budgetary approval, one or more non-tenure track position may become available for the 2021-2022 academic year.

At UC San Diego, Project Scientists are academic researchers who are expected to make significant and creative contributions to a research team, but are not necessarily leaders of the research team. They are not required to carry out independent research or develop an independent research reputation but will publish and carry out research or creative programs with supervision by a member of the Professor or Professional Research series. Project Scientists may not serve as a Principal Investigator but may serve as Co-Principal Investigators with members of the Professor or Research Scientist series. University and public service are encouraged but not required, and they do not have formal teaching responsibilities. Appointment durations vary depending on the length of the research project and availability of funding.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Must have Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or related field prior to start of appointment

Preferred qualifications
Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience in computational epigenomics and genomics; commitment to mentoring and research training service to build equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Extensive experience in the following areas: analyzing sequencing data from mapping, normalization to high-level analysis; machine learning and statistical test; proficient programming skills in python, R or other commonly used languages; experience with Haskell is a plus; experience with analyzing single cell genomic data such as RNA-seq and ATAC-seq data. The candidate should also have good communication and presentation skills and experience working with experimentalist and clinical scientists.
