W3 - Professorship for "Biological Data Science" (f/m/d)

 

in the civil service (grade W3 NBesO) for life has to be filled at the next possible date.

 

For this professorship, a team-oriented, dedicated and internationally renowned personality is sought, who will cover the field of data-driven, omics-based research and teaching in the molecular life sciences. Research and teaching is located in the area of analysis and integration of big data generated by omics and system biology approaches. Areas of work could include machine learning methods, statistical methods, sequence analysis, visualization, or efficient algorithms. The focus should be application-oriented and on innovative biological problems; desirable areas are (meta-)genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics or molecular structure analysis.

 

In teaching, the applicants will participate in the area of biological data analysis in cross-disciplinary courses of Bachelor and Master programs. Teaching will focus on strengthening and further developing the bachelor program "Applied Data Science" and the new master programs "Applied Data Science" and "Computational Biology and Bioinformatics". In addition, participation in the Bachelor programs "Biology" and "Biochemistry" is expected. The applicant is also expected contributing to the enhancement of data expertise in the Master programs "Molecular Life Science" and "Developmental, Neuronal and Behavioral Biology" and “Applied Data Science”. The University of Göttingen emphasizes research-oriented teaching.

 

The hiring requirements are based on § 25 NHG in the currently valid version. Applicants who have completed their PhD at the University of Göttingen can usually only be considered if they have worked scientifically outside the University of Göttingen for at least two years after completing their PhD. If the prerequisites are met, the candidate will be hired as a civil servant. The Foundation University of Göttingen has the right of appointment. Details will be explained upon request.
