Role Summary

We are excited to announce a Senior Scientist position for a highly motivated expert in LCMS quantification of small molecule biomarkers. The successful candidate will work on the full spectrum of exciting therapeutic modalities and potential treatments pursued at Pfizer. The role is within the Mass Spectrometry Technology group in Global Discovery, Investigative and Translational Sciences organization in Drug Safety Research and Development. The group provides expertise and utilizes the entire suite of cutting-edge LCMS instrumentation to lead the implementation of reliable, quantitative assays for small molecule biomarkers in support of pre-clinical and clinical safety investigations, de-risk toxicology issues and aid mechanistic safety investigations. This role brings multidisciplinary opportunities across Drug Safety Research and Development and Pfizer. This position requires demonstrated technology leadership in the application of LCMS techniques to support small molecule biomarkers and effectively work in a collaborative matrix environment to build successful partnerships across teams.

  • Accountable for the development and validation of quantitative assays for small molecule biomarkers and with the ability to effectively balance assay rigor against resource needs and study goals.
  • Delivery of high-quality mass spectrometry-based small molecule biomarker data to support key project decisions across different therapeutic areas and support outsourcing activities for such assays when demand exceeds capacity.
  • Provide data analysis/interpretation, reporting, and discussion with the project teams on utilizing the data for appropriate decision making.
  • Apply analytical mindset, strong problem-solving, and trouble-shooting skills to enable technology and scientific advancements.
  • Participate in all phases of mass spectrometry laboratory operations including technology evaluations, development of sample preparation and separation methods, maintenance and troubleshooting of chromatography and mass spectrometers.
  • Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are carried out according to scientific and ethical standards e.g., responsible for electronic notebooks record keeping, raw data storage. Perform all regulatory responsibilities in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Build strong partnerships to work effectively in a matrix environment to deliver decision making data to multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and external/internal presentations are expected.

  • Ph.D. plus >2 years of experience or M.S. plus >6 years of experience in a relevant scientific field (i.e., mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry); ideally mostly in industry.
  • This position requires strong analytical expertise with a solid background in different sample preparation workflows for small molecule biomarkers and triple quadrupole mass spectrometry.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and validating quantitative assays for endogenous small molecules.
  • Required background in bioinformatics and expertise of software packages for data analysis.
  • Experience supporting multi-disciplinary project teams and delivery of high-quality data in a timely manner.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills for collaboration.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask projects, agile to change, and act decisively.
  • Highly motivated, strong scientific curiosity and interest in drug development and technology innovation.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications.

  • Expertise in protein biochemistry, high-resolution LC-MS/MS, and nanoLC.
  • Expertise in toxicology and safety biomarkers.
