ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual with expertise in cellular and molecular biology to join our Cellular, Genomic, and Protein Sciences (CGPS) group at our Groton, CT campus. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the strategy and implementation of complex, physiologically relevant cell models to advance our early target discovery portfolio, support target ID, and evaluate the impact of lead molecules on cellular endpoints. As part of this early discovery group, t he individual will work closely with discovery biology teams to support a broad portfolio encompassing disease indications in Immunology, Internal Medicine, Rare Diseases, and Vaccines.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The successful candidate will leverage their significant experience building and working with primary cell models and/or iPSC differentiated models to support screening, target ID, and mechanistic studies.
  • This scientist will work with a diverse range of cell-based models, including immune cell types (T-cells, macrophages, dendritic cells), muscle cells (cardiac and skeletal), and stromal cells.
  • He/she/they will build and generate stable cell lines such as reporter lines, CRISPR/Cas9 KO/KIs, and overexpression systems to supply for target hit ID.
  • The successful candidate will regularly apply a broad range of cell-based characterization approaches such as gene expression, protein localization and expression, and downstream signaling or functional pathway endpoints.
  • This scientist will maintain a strong knowledge base in state-of-the-art cellular and genomic tools and apply creative approaches and novel technologies on complex protein and RNA targets.
  • He/she/they will be autonomous in conducting experiments to address key scientific questions and mechanistic studies.
  • The scientist should possess strong collaborative and written and verbal communication skills, be excited by working on cross-disciplinary groups (Disease Biology, Chemistry, Primary Pharmacology), be adept at building partnerships, and be very team-oriented.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in cell and molecular biology.
  • Extensive experience in sophisticated cell models, including primary and/or iPSC models.
  • Expertise in the development of engineered immortalized cell lines and proficient in the generation, characterization, and expansion of single-cell clones.
  • Proficient in cell and molecular characterization including mRNA and protein analysis such as flow-cytometry, FACs, qRT-PCR/ddPCR, RNAseq, immunostaining, Western blot/WES, and CETSA.
  • Applicants should have experience working independently in a laboratory setting and have a broad understanding and applied knowledge of cellular and molecular biology.
  • Experience of successfully interacting with and meeting the needs of multiple stakeholder groups is essential as well as having a customer focus.
  • Demonstration of excellent computer, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated examples of personal and scientific leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with a diverse variety of primary cell models and multiple target classes (e.g transcription factors, surface receptors, RNA)
  • Strong bases in RNA biology and protein chemistry.
  • Industry experience working in an early drug discovery setting.
  • Some experience in mentoring and supervision.
