Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP) is seeking an experienced protein purification scientist. Qualified candidate will play an essential role in a high-energy protein purification research laboratory. The purification group is responsible for non-GMP protein drug lead generation, supporting the various Pfizer research units and their pre-clinical therapeutic in-vitro and in-vivo needs. The candidate will be responsible for processing of mammalian- expressed recombinant protein modalities including, but not limited to, monoclonal antibodies through the use of state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. The candidate will contribute to the group wide deliverables and be required to work on several projects simultaneously presenting results and updates at group meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop methods for biotherapeutic production and e nsure timely delivery of highly-purified biotherapeutic candidates to discovery project teams
  • Assess quality of biotherapeutics rigorously and review all analytical documentation prior to protein release
  • Design/optimization of experiments in support of the development of scalable protein purification processes as well as providing technical support across the therapeutic product development cycle
  • Conduct testing of new process formulas, technologies and products, including but not limited to: new product scale-up, process optimization, limited characterization of protein products, impurities, purification, technology transfer, process validation activities and development of production procedures and product specifications
  • Drive technology innovation. Maintain knowledge of scientific trends industry processes through readings, conferences and seminars; review literature to advance manufacturing procedures and methods
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, research units, bioanalytical teams, transient expression and stable cell line development groups, engineering leads, and R&D project leaders


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD with 0-3 years or MS with 5+ years of relevant experience in Biochemistry, Biological Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with developing commercially relevant process for products derived from mammalian and microbial processes
  • Strong track record of experience with protein purification using AKTA/FPLC-based chromatography and QC
  • Deep understanding of analytical biochemistry and experience in protein analytical characterization, including mass spectrometric analysis of protein
  • Able to work effectively in cross functional teams to solve process development problems or implement improved procedures
  • Anticipate next steps, takes initiative, and is responsive to requests while consistently following through
  • Highly organized, exceptional attention to detail, and strong proficiency in documentation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive knowledge of drug development with a particular strength in area of purification process technologies
  • Hands-on experience with bioconjugation, including protein conjugation with payloads
  • Experience with DOE concepts and tools
