Postdoctoral Research Associate in Immunology and Infectious Disease

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated postdoctoral candidate to join our team who is interested in applying advanced multiomic approaches to understand immunity to influenza infection and vaccination. Research in the Driver group is directed at using genetically edited pig models to study the development and maintenance of pulmonary immunity. In this regard, we are especially focused on uncovering how unconventional T cell types (including gamma delta T cells, CD1-restricted T cells, and MR1-restricted T cells) establish and maintain immune homeostasis in the respiratory tract as well as their contribution to immunity against influenza viruses and other pathogens that are important for swine and human health. Our group is dynamic and interactive, and most projects require close teamwork among senior scientists, postdocs, and staff promoting excellent opportunities for acquiring new skills. The successful applicant will be enrolled in the University of Missouri’s Research Excellence Postdoc Program that provides training for postdoctoral scholars to successfully pursue external funding. This includes professional development activities provided by the Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Education.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include producing, analyzing, and publishing data generated on USDA and NIH funded projects researching host-pathogen interactions in genetically edited swine models. We have access to genomics and bioinformatics cores at University of Missouri as well as state-of-the-art genetically edited livestock models through the National Swine Research and Resource Center. The successful applicant will have the opportunity for further training in translational research, in vivo model systems, infectious disease model systems, and a range of immunological techniques.

This position is eligible for university benefits.  The University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental and vision plans, retirement, and educational fee discounts.  For additional information on university benefits, please visit the Faculty & Staff Benefits website at http://www.umsystem.edu/totalrewards/benefits

Hiring Range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually

Qualifications: The candidate is expected to have a PhD with experience in immunology and documented proficiency in verbal and written communication in English. Prior experience is required with some of the following techniques: virus replication and infection assays, cell culture, imaging techniques, PCR, ELISA/ELISpot assay, nucleic acids/protein extraction, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and next generation sequencing technologies. Experience with large animal systems is desirable, but not a requirement. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have the capacity for independent evaluation of the literature.

Interested applicants should send a brief statement of interest and curriculum vitae with contact information for three references to the Principal Investigator.
