About Koita Centre for Digital Health (KCDH):  

Koita Centre for Digital Health (KCDH) at IIT Bombay is the first of its kind in India, focused on driving academic programs, research, and industry collaborations in Digital Health. IIT Bombay is no. 1 Institute in India for innovation and is known as the premier institute for engineering education, research, and entrepreneurship. IIT Bombay is the highest ranked institute in India as per QS World University Ranking 2021. IIT Bombay is a leading international model in cross-functional areas such as computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, AI/ machine learning, electrical engineering, and bioengineering which are needed for excellence in Digital Health and Health Informatics. IIT Bombay has identified Healthcare as one of the major multidisciplinary initiatives and is making huge investments in health research, infrastructure and faculty hires. 

IIT Bombay campus of 530 acres area is located at the shores of Powai lake in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. Mumbai is a vibrant global metropolis which is well-connected to the world and provides access to the best healthcare, educational, culinary, cultural and entertainment resources. 

IIT Bombay has 15 Departments, 18 Centres, 3 Schools, and 4 Interdisciplinary Programs. There are more than 700 Full time and nearly 150 adjunct/visiting faculty. There are about 11,000 students on campus including 4500 Bachelors, 3200 Masters and 3300 PhD students. A quarter of students are women and the ratio of women students on campus is continuously on the rise. About 60-70% of top 100 and 90-95% of top 50 JEE (Joint Entrance Exam for engineering admissions) applicants choose IIT Bombay. 

KCDH was established in June 2021 with generous contribution from alumni Rekha and Rizwan Koita, under the aegis of the Koita Foundation (www.koitafoundation.org) to address the needs of engineers, clinical professionals and entrepreneurs in Digital health and to develop technology for societal benefits. The centre has established strong links with leading hospital systems, healthcare research organizations, academic organizations, and other departments within IIT Bombay which have strong capabilities in branches of medicine and healthcare applications. KCDH being a new centre, you will play a pioneering role in establishing the centre to be a role model for other similar initiatives.

IIT Bombay invites applications from qualified Indian nationals (including Persons of Indian Origins (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and foreign nationals for faculty positions to build leadership in the following areas of specializations in Digital Health:

Candidates should have good communication skills, a commitment to high quality undergraduate and postgraduate education.

Qualification: 

Ph.D. with First class or equivalent (in terms of Grades etc.) at the preceding degree, and a good academic record throughout. Research during/after Ph.D. leading to publications in high impact journals and other reputed venues.

Three years post Ph.D. teaching/research/professional experience is desired, excluding the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D. Candidates satisfying all criteria other than experience criteria may be appointed with appropriate pay based on post-doctoral experience. 

What you will be doing

You will be part of a team engaged in exciting and ground-breaking work in digital health education, research and outreach programs. IIT Bombay encourages interaction of the faculty with industry, other research and professional institutions. Consultancy is encouraged at IIT Bombay and liberal consultancy policies are in place.

Academic activities: Teaching, research, student guidance, other academic activities of the Institute.
• R&D activities:
– Eligible for a one time seed grant from the Institute.
– Can take up all types of R&D Projects, including consultancy projects.
– Can promote companies in SINE (Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship), IIT Bombay.
– Can be Directors of companies as per Institute norms.
• Administration related activities: Expected to be actively involved in administrative responsibilities as assigned by academic units and the Institute.

What we offer you:

KCDH provides seed grants, access to multidisciplinary research peer teams, research infrastructure, corporate and clinical partnerships, global advisory board, and a brightest talent pool. Good facilities also exist for computing. The Institute has a well-stocked library with close to 300,000 books, and electronic subscriptions to all leading journals.

About 90% of the faculty and research staff live on the Campus. The Institute endeavours to provide suitable accommodation to all faculty. However, initially new faculty may have to stay in transit accommodation outside the campus. Every faculty quarter on campus is provided with intercom and broadband Internet access.

Most of the facilities for day­-to-­day necessities are available on the Campus including two banks, a post office, a small shopping center, two schools (up to 12th standard) for children, a well-equipped 65 bed hospital, sports facilities including a swimming pool and vast playground for field games. Cultural facilities include film clubs, classical music societies, debating and drama, and a hobbies club. The Staff Club in particular is a centre of social and cultural activities. Family members of employees at IIT Bombay benefit from all these facilities under one roof. 

A technology business incubator hosted by the Institute, called the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), (https://www.sineiitb.org) serves to promote technology based entrepreneurship by faculty. A research park also helps in translational research opportunities.
