The US Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives is the single point of accountability for medical affairs strategy and planning for the Hospital Anti-Infectives portfolio. S/he will be expected to represent North America Medical Affairs on issues relating to assets within the portfolio at the highest levels of the organization.The Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives will be responsible for managing high performing asset teams ensuring that all processes & activities are fully aligned with local, regional and global Hospital business priorities, strategies and needs, as well as, in compliance with corporate policies & guidelines.

The US Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives will have the responsibility for managing the launch of several critical assets, including the protease inhibitor antiviral, and is expected to anticipate the associated challenges and opportunities and inspire the US Anti-infectives cross-functional team.

The US Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives is a member of the North America Medical Affairs (NAMA) Leadership Team and will work closely with the Global teams to ensure functional excellence. Strong teamwork and the ability to work effectively in a matrix environment are essential to the success of the role. Ability to travel extensively is a requirement.

The US Sr. Medical Director, Anti-Infectives will also represent Pfizer Medical Affairs with external MD-based professional associations and/or societies and contribute expertise and insights to brand and other cross-functional workstreams as a trained physician.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives reports to the North America Medical Affairs Lead and is part of the NAMA Leadership team. S/he is responsible for Medical strategy and planning in partnership with Hospital Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs and GMPE Leads, and the Commercial and Platform functions. S/he is accountable for delivery of strategic plans and for all knowledge generating activities on the Hospital area assets - including medical lifecycle planning and execution.

The Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives will provide medical affairs and scientific expertise to design, plan and implement innovative development programs for pipeline and marketed medicines. S/he also functions to interpret scientific and medical data and provide input to regulatory and scientific documents.

The Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives will have the responsibility for managing the development of digital approaches for Medical Affairs and is expected to anticipate the associated challenges and opportunities and inspire the NAMA team. The Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives will also have the responsibility to assess the Medical Necessity of the Anti-Infectives in the US and make recommendations to the Global Medical Product evaluation team accordingly.

The Senior Medical Director, Anti-Infectives is a member of the North America Medical Affairs Leadership Team and will work closely with the Global Therapeutic Area teams to ensure functional excellence. Strong teamwork and the ability to work effectively in a matrix environment are essential to the success of the role. Ability to travel extensively is a requirement.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop, and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • MD or DO (or equivalent) with 5 or more years of experience following the last stage of training, including 2 or more years of experience in medical affairs, clinical and/or health services roles (preferably in the pharmaceutical industry).
  • Experience in the Hospital business is highly desirable.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent and demonstrated interpersonal skills: ability to understand and respond to multiple external and internal customers' demands, manage and handle conflict constructively required.
  • Strategy experience with significant operational pharma experience in Medical Affairs
  • Expertise in the disease areas of relevance to the business with an established KOL network.
  • Successfully initiated and executed a major post approval medical program.
  • Successfully interacted with regulatory agencies regarding indication and/or labeling issues.
  • Significant cross-functional leadership/management experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading teams: running them effectively, efficiently, and on target. Capable of recognizing when team interventions are required to enhance team effectiveness and utilizing a variety of management and influencing techniques to ensure delivery of the program.
  • Knowledgeable of the commercial and environmental issues that drive asset success.
  • Experienced in managing projects to completion including management of people and budgets (with demonstrated fiscal responsibility).
  • Serve as a model and mentor for training new colleagues and be recognized as a sought out therapeutic area expert by colleagues broadly across the enterprise.
  • Represent Pfizer Medical Affairs with external MD-based professional associations and/or societies.
  • Contribute expertise and insights to medical teams, brand teams and other cross-functional workstreams as a trained physician


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in emergency/first responder medicine
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly adopt and utilize new digital technology and other resources with medical customers and record medical interactions
  • Familiarity with internal/external SOPs/Rules/Regulations regarding Pfizer/customer interactions and relationships, etc.
