About the group
The group focuses on the interaction between viruses and the innate immune system. We aim to identify new host factors involved in sensing and restricting viruses. We are employing state-of-the-art systems-based approaches (doi: 10.1016/j.chom.2015.11.002; doi: 10.1038/s41467-018-04671-1), CRISPR/Cas9 and iPSC technology to generate a deeper understanding on the cellular functions of the identified factors in infection (HIV-1, HCMV) and disease (interferonopathies, cancer: doi: 10.1007/s00109-021-02131-w). Additionally, the group incorporates a bioinformatics subgroup that focuses on next-generation sequencing/​metagenomics and machine learning approaches. The offered position is part of a third-party-funded project.

About the project – Key responsibilities
The Postdoc will work within a team of scientists working on various aspects understanding regulations and functions of SAMHD1. The position will focus on deciphering molecular interactions by proximity-labeling of mutated SAMHD1 leading to Aicardi–Goutières syndrome and of SAMHD1 in the context of infection. The goal is to understand the details of the mechanisms using genetically engineered CRISPR/Cas9 KI cells, Mass-spec, scRNAseq and methods for the study of innate immunity.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in life sciences or related
  • Excellent background in innate immunology or infectious disease research
  • Hands on experience elucidating innate immune responses
  • Methodological expertise in iPS cell culture, proximity-labeling (MS), CRISPR/Cas9, or virology is a plus
  • Team player and ability to supervise PhD and Master students
  • The successful candidate is expected to coordinate collaborative research activities and communicate in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Exceptional motivation and flexibility, a high degree of dedication and productivity
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Our Working Conditions

A multifaceted, and challenging position centrally located in the Rhine-Main area (Frankfurt) with good public transport connections. Being an employer in the German public service, we offer the usual social benefits.

The successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract until December 31, 2024. Part-time working is possible in principle. The payband is E 14 TVöD Bund. The assignment to a payband is made based on the consideration of your individual professional experience.
