Visiting Research Specialist

Job Summary

University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy seeks a Visiting Research Specialist. Dr. Yu Gao' s lab (pepchem.org) focuses on sensitive protein detection (e.g. single-cell proteomics) methods and the elucidation of protein interactions (e.g. protein-protein interaction, protein-small molecule interaction, etc). Gao lab was established in Fall 2018 and currently equipped with a QE-HF mass spectrometer and powerful computing resources.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

  • Under the supervision of the Primary Investigator, the primary job duties include but are not limited to:
    Contributing to the preparation of scientific manuscripts by drafting portions of the text, preparing graphs, tables, ad charts, etc.
  • Summarizes results and prepares progress reports for oral presentation at laboratory meetings.
  • Maintain cell culture and various lab instruments as needed.
  • Keep clean records.
  • Conduct various common molecular biology experiments such as western blot, DNA/RNA extraction, amplification, RNA/DNA/Protein purification, molecular cloning, etc.
  • Work and communicate respectfully with others in the lab, including undergraduate students, graduate students and post-doc researchers.
  • Adheres to laboratory safety requirements including general and chemical /hazardous waste safety disposal methods.
  • Accomplishes day-to-day care and housekeeping of laboratory.
  • Orders all supplies and reagents needed for experiments.

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in science or related field required.
  • Master's degree in science preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.
  • Proficient in specific lab research techniques.
