Pacific Northwest Research Institute (PNRI) is seeking a Research Technician for the Stubbs Lab who will focus on analysis of genes involved in brain development, especially as it relates to social behavior and the brain’s ability to adapt to stress. The technician will work as part of a team performing mouse breeding, weaning, and behavioral analysis, brain histopathology, and analysis of protein, RNA and chromatin from dissected tissue, isolated brain cell types, and neuronal cells in culture. The technician will be involved in the research from start to finish – from experiments to data analysis – and will assist with preparing data summaries for presentation and publication.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team but also independently, carrying out scientific techniques, procedures and research in close coordination with others. Hands-on experience with laboratory research, including molecular biology methods and documented experience as a laboratory assistant are required.  Previous experience with rodent breeding and animal handling will be considered a definite plus.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences or equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Two or more years of experience as a Research Technician or related laboratory experience, with hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques including DNA, RNA and protein purification and analysis, PCR, western blots, plasmid cloning and purification, transfection
  • Willingness to handle and work closely with mouse models; animal handling experience and experience with histopathology and microscopy will be strongly preferred
  • Resilient to setbacks, strong work ethics, motivated with challenging projects.
  • Excellent time management and ability to multitask with focus on different projects
  • Desire to learn and to work as an integral part of an integrated scientific team
