Application deadline: 2022-07-14

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Mathematics at Universität Hamburg has excellent research and teaching activities. The research group is preparing an application for the proposed collaborative research center Higher Structures, Moduli Spaces, and Integrability.

The successful candidate is expected to teach and conduct research in mathematics. Applicants are also expected to conduct research in one of the fields of differential geometry, geometrical analysis, complex geometry, symplectic geometry, or quantum geometry. They are also expected to participate in third-party-funded projects, such as the Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe or the proposed collaborative research center Higher Structures, Moduli Spaces, and Integrability. Areas of work should meaningfully contribute to the existing research in the Department of Mathematics, the Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe, and the proposed collaborative research center and thus increase the potential for collaboration. Suitable areas of focus include differential geometry, geometrical analysis, complex geometry, symplectic geometry, or quantum geometry.

The successful candidate is further expected to teach undergraduate level in the Department of Mathematics, analysis and differential geometry at advanced levels, and courses for programs in other degree programs and disciplines.

We further expect the successful candidate to take part in the University’s core research area Particle, Astro- and Mathematical Physics.

In their application, applicants are expected to indicate to which of the University’s core research areas, emerging fields, or profile initiatives (https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/forschung/forschungsprofil/forschungsschwerpunkte.html) their research can best be assigned. Duties include working in one or more of the core research areas, emerging fields, or profile initiatives.

The successful candidate is further expected to participate actively in the instruction of students pursuing a teacher training degree in the respective discipline.

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

REQUIREMENTS
Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 18 HmbHG.

ADDITIONAL CRITERIA
Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects.

The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

Junior professors have academic autonomy in their research and teaching. Applicants’ subject interests are expected to relate to topics in the area of Analysis and Differential Geometry (AD).

As a University of Excellence, Universität Hamburg is one of the strongest research universities in Germany. As a flagship university in the greater Hamburg region, it nurtures innovative, cooperative contacts to partners within and outside academia. It also provides and promotes sustainable education, knowledge, and knowledge exchange locally, nationally, and internationally.

In accordance with Section 14 subsection 3 sentence 3 HmbHG, Universität Hamburg seeks to increase the proportion of women in teaching and research and encourages female academics to apply.

This junior professorship is aimed at early career researchers who completed their doctoral studies no more than four years prior.
