to be occupied at the earliest possible date.

The junior professorship is to be filled as temporary civil-servant position for an initial period of three years. If successful, the temporary civil-servant status shall be extended to a maximum of six years. The permanent appointment as a university professor at the salary grade of W2 as a lifetime civil servant shall only be granted if the junior professor has proved her/his worth in accordance with the university's internal concept of quality assurance. The professorship is affiliated with the department of Medical Systems Biology (Prof. Dr. D. Grün) (https://www.med.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/systemimmunologie/research/quantitative-single-cell-biology-of-the-immune-system-gruen-lab/) which has been newly established within the framework of the Hightech Agenda of the Bavarian Government and associated with the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS).

The applicant has to represent the subject single cell biology in research and teaching. Successful applicants will have expertise in experimental and/or computational single cell analysis. An independently developed, innovative research program particularly in the field of systems immunology applying novel high-resolution technologies, and/or computational analysis methods and artificial intelligence/machine learning is expected.

Teaching duties shall include course offers towards the modularized “Biomedicine” program of the University of Würzburg and the elite degree programme “Translational Medicine”. Experience in acquiring funding from third parties as well as in interdisciplinary research cooperations is expected.

Art. 14 Section 1 Bavarian University Personnel Law, BayHSchPG (in German only)). Applicants for tenure-track positions should find themselves in an early phase of their journey towards professorship and having switched universities after completing their doctorate. If their doctorate was awarded by the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, they will have to have spent at least two years away from the Julius-Maximilians-University working in a scientific capacity.

Insofar as employment as researcher or research assistant took place before or after the doctorate, the doctoral and employment phases together should not exceed six years, or nine years within the field of medicine (cf. Art. 14 Section 3 BayHSchPG).
