The University of Missouri – Columbia (MU) seeks applications and nominations for outstanding faculty candidates. This appointment is part of MizzouForward, the most important strategic investment to achieve research excellence and student success in the history of the university.  This initiative will leverage existing institutional strengths and address national health and scientific priority areas through innovation and collaboration.  

During the past 5 years, MU faculty have made significant strides in growing research excellence and student success in accordance with our Strategic Plan. Over this time, R&D awards have increased by 53%, R&D expenditures hit $343M (the all-time high), and our graduation rate for total, under-represented minority, and Pell students achieved record highs. We invite accomplished faculty at all ranks to apply for this program to contribute to research excellence and student success and to shape the future of our institution. 
 

We seek applicants across three broad centralized hiring areas: NextGen Precision HealthNew Frontiers in Science, Engineering, and Technologies; and Innovations in Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts. Within each of these areas, we are currently focusing on the following clusters:

The centerpiece of our renewed focus on research excellence involves the NextGen Precision Health Institute: Opening fall 2021 on the MU campus, the NextGen Precision Health Institute will provide talented minds from across the UM System with a new $221 million, cutting-edge research facility dedicated to solving our most pressing health concerns. Designed to empower interdisciplinary collaboration as the cornerstone of the initiative, the building will provide collaborative nexus for activity focused on speeding the path to new treatments and making them accessible to people in need, faster than ever before. Office of Research and Economic Development
 

The Office of Research and Economic Development invests in faculty by providing the resources, support and training needed to enable professional development, large interdisciplinary project grant support, innovation technology development and implementation, and Core Facilities support. The University of Missouri fosters our research-focused academic ecosystem through campus-wide interdisciplinary research centers including the NextGen Precision Health Institute slated to open in October 2021.

This college town of 113,000+ residents has the best of both worlds – small-town convenience with urban sophistication and amenities. Minimum Qualification

  • An earned terminal degree in a discipline related to one of the centralized hiring areas
     

Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors

  • Research agenda and accomplishments (e.g., publication record, number of citations)
  • National awards and honors, membership with national academies
  • Interdisciplinary orientation of their work
